The Online Marriage process in California can take anywhere from 24-72 hours depending on how quickly your application documents are submitted and approved. Many couples are able to complete the whole process and get legally married in only a few hours!

The best part about Online Marriage is that the entire process happens virtually – the marriage application, the marriage license, the ceremony (which happens via video conference), and delivery of a digital marriage certificate. A paper hardcopy of your marriage certificate is then shipped to your address within a week or so.

Other Options

While the process described above is the easiest and most convenient option for couples in California to get married on the web, it’s not the only option. You can also get special permission from your local county clerk’s office to apply for a California marriage license online, and even in some cases have the ceremony conducted online. The only downside is that it has to be approved by the clerk’s office, and is typically only available for couples with extenuating circumstances such as active duty military deployment.

Every county clerk’s office has their own rules and procedure for seeking permission to do some (or all) of the process online, so check with your local clerk to see what’s required. Otherwise, we highly recommend using the links above to get married online in California quickly and easily.
